Leon and Elton

I can't believe tomorrow is October 1st. Wow! This year is going so fast! One thing I'm looking forward to this month is the release of Leon Russell and Elton John's "The Union" album the on 19th. Check out the somewhat emotional promo video. Although, I'm not much of an Elton fan, I love Leon and I'm very excited about this album.

You can pre-order it from Amazon HERE

The videos are slowing down my blog, but here's a link to the video of my favorite song on the album (so far). It sounds just like a song that Leon would do...then and now. It suits his voice very well. HERE

The Last Day of Summer and Fall Begins - A Harvest Moon

The lake levels are low now and the trees are slowly dulling and losing their green, lustrous, color. Yet, it's still hot. Highs are still in the 90's. Nevertheless, it's time to look toward the holidays and start planning and budgeting (if you haven't already).

If you need some motivation, check out what's happening at Chocoley Chocolate. I love this stuff! Even if you don't buy anything from them, their website is a valueable resource in itself and can go a long way in helping you with your holiday creations. You can visit them at chocoley.com

A “super” harvest moon, that won’t happen again until 2029, will light up the Wednesday night sky.
Farmers named the harvest moon —a full moon near the time of fall equinox — in the days before electric lights. Farmers used the harvest moon to spend more time gathering crops.
Typically the harvest moon comes within days or weeks of the equinox. But this year the moon hits its maximum brightness six hours after the equinox, which is at 8:10 p.m. The full moon is at its brightest at 2:17 a.m. Thursday.

For Real?

An atheist author, Christopher Hitchens, who is dying from cancer apparently has no use for prayer and yet today, Monday, is designated as "Everybody pray for Hitchens Day". I have never heard of him but if he is an atheist, and we know he's dying, shouldn't we pray for him everyday? If you haven't already read about you can read more

MACON, GA -- Shelby Marwan Heggs of Macon admits he's been a sinner, but hopes his past won't keep a judge from allowing him to become a Saint.

Heggs, who has convictions for drunken driving and marijuana possession, has filed a court petition that would allow him to change his name to Saint Jody Almighty Bedrock.

Heggs, who also faces an aggravated battery charge next month, says he's rededicated his life to God. Check out the whole story Here

A Kentucky man, Woody Will Smith, a 33-year-old father of two, is facing life in prison for the 2009 murder of his wife, Amanda. His attorney intends to argue that Smith was so hopped up on caffeine -- courtesy of coffee, diet pills and energy drinks -- he was essentially too insane to have consciously, intentionally committed the heinous crime of strangling his spouse to death. The Superbug

I was watching the news last night and listening to the elementary schools and high school wrestling teams that are being affected by MRSA infection. Since this, has in the past, been referred to as "the flesh eating disease", I was seriously concerned. It can be fatal. My granddaughter is in kindergarten, so I did a little research.

Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection, also referred to as "the superbug" is caused by a strain of staph bacteria that's become resistant to the antibiotics commonly used to treat ordinary staph infections.

MRSA infection has been found mostly in hospitals and nursing in the past but is now occurring in the wider community — among healthy people. This form, community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA), often begins as a painful skin boil. It's spread by skin-to-skin contact. At-risk populations include groups such as high school wrestlers, public gym users, child care workers and people who live in crowded conditions.

An MRSA carrier is a person who has the MRSA bacteria living on their skin or in their nose but who does not demonstrate the symptoms of MRSA. Such people are often described as being colonised with MRSA.

In the case of colonisation, and unlike infection, the bacteria causes no adverse effects in a person and it exists on their skin or in their nose but does nothing more. MRSA carriers can lead normal lives and most people who are carriers don’t know it. About 30% of people are colonised with SA and most do not develop an infection.

The news report I was watching said that a boil can be lanced and the infection drained and treated to prevent further infection. Who would have thought that? To me, it seems the opposite would be better.

In my search, I came across this soap. I supposed it's true that, "they make something for everything".

The ultimate in natural skin protection... this soothing bar is packed full of 100% natural disease fighting essential oils. The unique blend of these essential oils destroys harmful bacteria in a matter of minutes. In doing so, Defense Soap™ leaves behind enough healthy skin bacteria to allow the skin flora to re-colonize in a few hours. Clinical studies have shown— and thousands of customers have affirmed —that Defense Soap™ is effective in treating and preventing the following skin diseases: ringworm infections, Impetigo, MRSA and herpes. Defense Soap™ can also help treat infections due to acne as well.

A Cool Gadget For Outdoors

It's great camping weather! We just got back from camping in the North Georgia Mountains. It was great! I was recently introduced to a cool tool that would make a great gift for some gadget loving guy. Especially, if he's an outdoorsman.

There are different kinds of fire pistons, so research a little. You can buy a basic one here. This is the one I have.

Friday Funnies

o It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me. 'Is that a dog you got back there?' he asked. 'It sure is,' I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, 'What'd he do?'
o A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages.. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. 'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out. 'What have you got there, dear?' With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's Adam's underwear!'
