Auto Auction Bidder

Have you ever really, really, wanted something you were bidding on from eBay and just hated having to keep checking and checking and hoping your bid wins. Me too, but not very often.

It really shouldn't surprise me anymore what programs people come up with but it does. We humans are a creative bunch aren't we?  I recently discovered the Auto Auction Bidder. I'm sure it would be a useful tool for those who frequent auction sites...why else would someone come up with it? It certainly seems worthy of mentioning. (click to enlarge this screen shot)

Auction Auto Bidder automatically places your bids in the last seconds of an auction, ensuring no one will try to outbid you which means the price stays low and your chances of winning stay high. Auction Auto Bidder can also import watched items from ebay, supports bid groups and works as a fully featured tabbed Web browser optimized to make browsing the eBay Web site easier. The program supports multiple eBay accounts and can be used on any computer for a single purchase price. It also fully supports international eBay Web sites.
Program features:
* Set event notifications for items (new bids, available quantity changes, specified amount of time left, price exceeds specified amount)
* Notifications of sellers with poor feedback or who do not accept PayPal in built in browser
* Import watched auctions from “my eBay”
* Bid group support (group several auctions of an item you want, and the software will automatically attempt to win one after the other in the group until one of them is won at your maximum bid or less, and then cancels the bids on the other items in the group, this prevents you from having to wait and see if you are outbid and then find another item)
* Built in tabbed web browser (open multiple web pages and switch between them in a single click)
* Thumbnail photo of items shown in list to help easily recognize items without having to read titles
* Shipping cost shown in item list
* Favorites menu allows you to add your favorite pages such as searches, sellers, or any other webpage
* New easier to use interactive items list with one click access to all options
* Powerful list filter option allows you to apply one or more filters too see only the items you want (bidding, won, ended, etc. including any combination)
* Fully supports using international eBay websites
* Ability to leave notes for items
It's also very reasonably priced. I'm sure that will change if it catches on! If you're interested, here is the homepage

White People

I recently discovered a book about what white people like, and I found a blog to go with it, so I checked it out. It is
hilarious, no  matter what color you are! You can visit it
here

There is also a video website about white people called
"White People Gone Grazy".

I didn't know there was a play about white people, but there is. The website is here

I found the blog of a lost white guy trying to understand what it means to be white here.

Of course, you have to watch the video about the necessity of exterminating white people in order to save the planet. This dude does have cool hair here

Oh and if you like rhythm and soul music you'll love the band "White People". Listen the them here

We all know about Bill Cosby's soapbox stand that "We can't blame white people", but if you'd like to review it again, you can read it here here

Did you ever wonder where the term "cracker" or "white cracker" originated? You might find your answer  here

Is there a difference between Caucasian and white? Apparently
so. I found this explanation on englishforums.com

"Caucasian refers to individuals from with light or pale skin
ranging from people who would have somewhat darker tan
colored skin.  This would include people whose ancestry comes
from Europe, North Africa (Egypt, which is in the
Mediterranean area and also includes such countries of Italy,
Greece, and Lebanon), and Middle East.  Caucasian has become
almost synonymous with white, but in the traditional since it
is not.  Although Caucasian would include white people, it's
not ONLY referring to white people.  For example Jews
(speaking of those individuals who share common genetics due
to being united by a religion [ethnoreligion] NOT someone
from another ethnicity who converted to Judaism as a religion
[changing religions does NOT change genetics) are not
considered to be white people in the traditional sense.  Though
many of them may have light skin (EX: Jerry Seinfeld, Adam
Sandler, Jon Stewart), they may also range to a darker color
(EX: Gene Simmons [real name: Chiam Witz] the bassist [I
think] for the rock band KISS and Sasha Barron Cohen).
Hispanics also range in a wide variety of colors; I
personally have known many who appear to be as light as a
white person ranging all the way up to Hispanics from Puerto
Rico who may appear to be black (though they are NOT black,
but Hispanic).  Black people also range from many different
skin tones; some may be as light as a tan color, and some may
be actually black (as in black and NOT brown), such as those
actually from Africa.  To answer the question of white
people; it is, in the traditional since, referring to people
of Western European heritage (e.g. Britain, Ireland,
Scotland, Germany)."

Valentines Day!

Valentine glitter

Chocolates, Cards, Flowers and jewelry - A day for sweethearts!

Saint Valentine's Day is an annual holiday held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. The holiday is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines").

In Roman mythology, Cupid (Latin cupido, meaning "desire") is the god of erotic love and beauty. He is also known by another one of his Latin names, Amor (cognate with Kama). He is the son of goddess Venus and god Mercury.

In popular culture Cupid is frequently shown shooting his bow to inspire romantic love, often as an icon of Valentine's Day. He is now in the current culture the personification of love and courtship in general.

Let's not forget to acknowledge, today and everyday, the greatest love of all!

10 Commandments

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the ten commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "Honor thy father and thy mother," she asked "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"

Without missing a beat Little Johnny answered, "Thou shall not kill."

It was 10 seasons with Manning at the helm – and 10 seasons without a winning record. The team referred to as the "Aints".

It’s the cursed franchise, its mistreated, beaten-down former savior and the son with the chance to deliver payback for all those seasons of mauling and misery. It’s the sporting passion of New Orleans against the city’s first football family.

“I’ve lived in New Orleans for 39 years and I’m very proud of what the Saints have done,” said Archie Manning, “Very proud.”

Yet make no mistake about his allegiances. Blood is thicker than Bourbon Street.

“I’m pulling for the Colts, 100 percent,” Manning said. “One-hundred percent."

Perhaps no franchise misused a potential superstar the way the Saints did with Archie. He managed to make two Pro Bowls despite a 35-91-3 record in New Orleans. He was sacked an outrageous 339 times, including four seasons when he got buried 40 or more times. By comparison, Peyton took just 10 sacks this season.

Peyton won in 2007 Super Bowl, Eli in 2008. For a dad who experienced so little professional team success, it’s been a bountiful run. “I sure never got close to it,” Archie said.

Four decades later, is the son returning to pay back the Saints for the sacks of the father?

The Saints enter the game with a 13-3 record for the 2009 regular season, compared to the Colts 14-2 record. In the playoff games, both teams had a 1st round bye. The Colts entered the Super Bowl off of 20–3 and 30–17 victories, while the Saints advanced with scores of 45–14 and 31–28.

Halftime performance by the Who.

FLO TV, will.i.am, The Who, Slash, UMG and Songways Dedicate Proceeds From will.i.am’s Super Bowl Ad Remix Of “My Generation” To Oxfam America’s Haiti Relief Efforts. The song makes its debut appearance February 7 during the 2nd quarter of Super Bowl XLIV in an ad for FLO TV.

Commercial Controversies

Three advertisers in particular raised eyebrows with their choice of being in the Superbowl. One new advertiser, Focus on the Family, will have a commercial featuring 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and his mother that has drawn criticism from women's groups who have asked CBS to cancel the ad because they believe it will be divisive. So far, CBS is going ahead with airing the advertisement, which has not been pre-released to the public.

One proposed sponsor, ManCrunch, a gay dating site that bills itself as a place "where many many many men come out to play," had expressed interest in purchasing a 30-second advertisement, which would have shown a male Packers fan and a male Vikings fan reach into the same bowl of potato chips at the same time, and after a brief pause, begin passionately kissing. ManCrunch's ad, which has been released to the public, was initially put on a waiting list before the network outright rejected it due to it violating CBS's broadcast standards. ManCrunch immediately accused CBS of discrimination, and in doing so led observers to suspect that their advertisement was an attempt at ambush marketing and free publicity.

Among rejected or modified ads were one for Electronic Arts Dante's Inferno, which had to be edited for content (the closing phrase, originally intended to read "go to Hell," was replaced with "Hell awaits"), and GoDaddy's originally planned advertisement.

2 Quick and Easy Recipes
Easy Microwave Nachos

1/2 to 1 lb ground beef
chopped onion
1 bag tortilla chips or bite-size rounds
1 bag shredded cheddar to mexican blend cheese
Sliced jalepenos
Dollap of sour cream
(Refried or Pinto beans options)

Process:

Crumble ground beef and onion into a microwave-safe dish. Cook on high 2 minutes at a time until done. Drain off fat.

Place chips on a microwave-safe plate, covering entire bottom plate. If you are using beans, put them on the chips now, otherwise, drop crumbled ground beef and onion all over the chips. Cover with shredded cheese and top with sliced jalepeno peppers. Heat for 30 - 45 seconds in microwave on high.

When you take them out, drop a dollap of sourcream onto the middle of the nachos.

Taco Casserole Served With Tortilla Chips

1.5 lbs cooked ground beef
1 packet taco seasoning
1/2 cup chopped onion (or used uncooked onion in the topping)
1 8oz pkg softened cream cheese
1 small container sour cream (large if you like a lot of sour cream)
shredded lettuce
chopped tomatos
slice black olives
Taco sauce or salsa
shredded cheddar cheese

Brown ground beef, onion and taco seasoning packet according to package directions. Cover bottom of large casserole dish with meat mixture. Mix sour cream and softened cream cheese together and spread over meat...or you can do them in individual layers if you prefer. Drizzle taco sauce or salsa over the sour cream mixture. Top with the shredded lettuce, chopped tomatos, black olives and shredded cheddar cheese. If you want to spice it up, toss some sliced jalapenos on top too. Scoop up with tortilla chips!

Gloves and Grammys and Leon Russell

Before the grammys, my granddaughter and I made some gloves!

We used an old pink flannel pajama top of hers. First we drew an outline of her hand onto paper to make the pattern. We cut it out just a little bigger than the print.
We pinned the pattern to the pajama top and cut out the fabric hand print. I didn't have any yarn to decoratively sew it together, so we used super glue to create seams instead. Then we folded the tops into cuffs. Just a fun thing to do on a Sunday afternoon.

You know, when I was a kid, we wore socks on our hands. I used to take my skirts and lay them on cloth and cut out a pattern and put it to the sewing machine and make new skirts and put elastic in the waste. I can't believe I never thought of this. We could have had gloves!

The Grammy Awards 2010

I thought this year's show was great! Michael Jackson's children receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award was heart breaking.

However, it was so good to see Leon Russell on stage. And what about Jeff Beck on his Les Paul. Definitely good stuff.

Quote from NJ.com: "The Zac Brown Band, which won the New Artist award, joined forces with Leon Russell, who recently underwent surgery for a brain fluid leak, for a rootsy medley of “America the Beautiful,” Russell’s “Dixie Lullaby” and the Brown band’s “Chicken Fried.”

USA today has an article about Leon performing at the Neil Young Tribute at the 20th MusiCares show. Here's an excerpt.

"LOS ANGELES — Friends and disciples led Neil Young on a journey through the past, singing his songs and his praises at the 20th annual MusiCares gala Friday night.

Steven Stills returned for Crosby, Stills & Nash's Human Highway, and Sheryl Crow reappeared for one of the evening's high points, a rendition of Helpless with Elton John, Leon Russell and Neko Case."

With this show on Friday and the Grammys on Sunday, I'm thinking Leon must have spent the weekend in Los Angeles. Good for him! He should be center stage. He's an incredible artist who just seems to be under appreciated time and time again!

Leon working on a new album? DetroitAtHome.com has a Classic Rock News item that reads:

"Leon Russell is reportedly in "good condition" following brain surgery on Monday. A message was posted on the singer-songwriter's official website this week describing his current health. The message read, quote, "Leon is recovering after successful surgery on Monday to relieve a chronic condition. He is doing fine and resting in the hospital in good condition. Russell is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days." The Oklahoma-born musician still plans to work with Sir Elton John, lyricist Bernie Taupin, and producer T-Bone Burnett on a new album. Russell's site confirmed that the collaboration remains a "go" with studio recording sessions planned for the last half of January through February. Russell and his band are also scheduled to get back on the road in March."

Interesting Grammy Trivia

# The first Grammy awards were held on May 4, 1959 in the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hotel

# The Grammys were originally launched to ward off the threat of the rock 'n roll explosion. The Best Rock and Roll Recording category wasn't added until 1962.
